Hello All

In getting ready for a first appointment, can anyone help with the contents and layout for a chronology

I want to make sure I include the correct level of detail and that I lay out to chronology correctly

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Sazza

Hi there

In financial proceedings a chronology is a simple document to give the judge a brief outline of some of the detail he needs. It would need:

The DOB of the parties and children
The date of cohabitation if you argue seemless cohab to marriage
The date of marriage
The date of separation
The date of the petition
The date of the nisi
The date of the Forms E
The date of the FDA

You then later add any other dates relevant to the proceedings

The best thing is to keep it simple with bullet points identifying all the key events in chronological order. The aim is to provide a summary which focuses on the history and significant events to your case.

Sera,

The chronology is separate to the statement of issues and neither are put on a prescribed form.

You need to head both papers for example:

In the XXXX court Case No. XXXXXXXX

Between Mr. Evil Lucifer Petitioner
and
Mrs. Lilith Devil Respondent

Chronology (or Statement of Issues)
Prepared by the Petitioner (or Respondent)

..and off you go!

No swearing involved.

Good luck!

Hi Sera,

Seems you are self-repping which will save you loads of money in admin - a bit time consuming but if your ex has a solicitor all the better. I say this because although some documents/statements etc are meant to be "exchanged" at the same time, if there is a day lapse you can wait for the "other sides" to arrive in the post to you and provided you have the info (as the divorcelawyer set out) you can copy the format from his solicitor's - I don't think the court cares as long as all the info is there.

What stage are you at? After the FDR? Have you exchanged questionnaires yet?

Keep it up - you'll feel like you've done a degree in law at the end of it if it gets to a Final Hearing but boy you'll learn a lot and save money to boot!
:)
