Hiya

I''m writing on behalf of my mum. She went into hospital 2 years ago with a stroke and was left disabled (which is when my dad walked away from her).:(
She had to stop working as she could not talk or walk properly and only receives her pension along with disabled benefits now.
I know a divorce can cost a lot of money so I am filling out the forms for her myself, but I want to know if there is any way of getting grants/money off for the cost of court fees for her? It is a lot for her to pay out when she doesn''t have much.

Amy

In the application form for the divorce you can tick the box that says that the respondent (your dad) should pay the costs. It is not the divorce that is expensive, it is dealing with the finances. If your dad is not paying any spousal maintenance you should think about applying for an interim order to get him to pay something to help your mum.

Good luck and I hope that someone else with more specialised knowledge comes along soon!

Please read this page on fee remission from HMCTS.

There is also a leaflet with the catchy title EX160A that has information on fee remission.

You can access it here

Hope that helps

HI

I applied for a fee remission using this form. Although I was not entitled to a full fee remission I only paid a reduced fee.

The form does come with information on how to fill this form in but if you have any questions please ask and I will do my best to help you.
