Last weekend my husband told me he wanted to separate. Whilst the news was hard to take i agreed it was the best solution. Since then he has been staying with a friend.

We have 3 children and a house with a joint mortgage but he has always paid for everything, I work part time and am the main care giver for the children. He has already said he wants to keep the house and he can afford it, I have no disposable income and just live off of what I earn. I can't afford to rent somewhere else or stay in our house.

Am I going to be entitled to any benefits now we are separating? I have no idea what to do

Yes.

If you are working the obvious first port of call will be Universal Credit. Apply today!

If you put you details in to www.entitledto.com it will give you an indication of all the benefits you will be able to claim.

Your ex will also need to pay you child maintenance.

He may well want to keep the house but the first priority will be housing children so stop worrying about that. Depending on details you may well be able to stay there until children are older.

When you're ready post more details about ages, incomes, all assets, and ages of children and you'll get lots of advice from people who have been through the same thing.
