What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Will I get anything from a settlement?

I have a financial dispute resolution hearing coming up and am representing myself.
My husband and I were together for 13 years but only married for the final 5 years of those. I moved in with my husband and so the house was already in his name and remained in his name. I contributed money to household every month. My husband controlled any surplus income that we had. I had to leave the former matrimonial home one evening and so my husband has retained everything and I have set up in a rented home for myself. He has our daughter (8yrs) 60% of time (not through my wish) and I am going through a child arrangements application.
I am just seeking reassurance as to whether I may get any form of financial settlement from our marriage.

You haven’t given full details of ages, incomes and all assets but after 13 years together it doesn’t really matter whose name the house is in.
